Sports Premium

PRIMARY SPORTS PREMIUM

The Government is making available to all schools a sum of money annually to allow them to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in school and to increase pupil participation in sporting activity. Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they have the freedom to choose how they do this.

For our school this means a grant of approximately £17180 for 2023-2024.

This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

Possible uses for the funding include:

  • Hiring specialist PE Teachers or qualified sport coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE

  • Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/Sport

  • Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/Sport

  • Running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games

  • Buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE/Sport

  • Providing places for pupils on after school sports clubs and holiday clubs

How will we be spending the Sports Funding at our school and who will benefit?

The Governors agree that the money must be used so that: all children benefit regardless of sporting ability and to enable staff to  access training opportunities and continued professional development.

Here at St Joseph's Infant School we are using the money to:

  • Continue to develop staff skills in PE and outdoor activities through external training seminars, external coaches supporting curriculum lessons and staff mentoring

  • To deploy a member of staff as a sports ambassador to motivate and encourage staff and children, to keep abreast of sporting developments and initiatives that may benefit the school and to lead in-house training

  • Offer enrichment days - visiting coaches, athletes or inspirational speakers

  • Improve resources and access to resources through creating space & designated storage facilities for PE

  • Provide a sporting specialist personal to our school, interschool sporting activities, take part in interschool competitions.

At the end of each year we will be reporting on the impact that the funding has had at our school.
