St Joseph's Catholic Infant School

Eco-School Council

At St Joseph’s Catholic Infant School we encourage the children to consider the gift of God’s Creation and how we need to look after all aspects of our planet.  Each year the children democratically elect two Eco-School Councillors from each of the Year 1 and 2 classes.

The council meet regularly to discuss important Ecological issues such as:-

  • Saving energy
  • Reducing litter
  • Recycling
  • Transport
  • Biodiversity
  • Our School Grounds
  • Global Perspectives
  • Pupil Participation

How does our school support these issues?

  • We are currently assisting with the Walk Once a Week (WoW) travel initiative.
  • The children intend to raise funds to pay for raised beds for growing flowers and vegetables.
  • We already compost our fruit waste and hope that this compost will be used on the raised beds.
  • Our parents and staff have worked together to build and maintain a garden of remembrance outside the Year 1 classrooms.

Having achieved our Eco-school Bronze Award, the school Eco-Council are now considering how to work towards the Eco-school Silver Award.
